The palm pre is a multi-media smart phone,designed and marketed by Palm.The Palm Pre has a multi touch screen and also has a sliding keyboard.The pre was launched on June 6,2009.A GSM version of Palm was launched later in 2009 and the revised model with double memory and internal storage was launched on Jan 25,2010.The third generation of Palm which uses HP WEB OS 2.0 was announced on October 2010.

PALM PRE DESIGN:

The pre has a very natural look.The outer part of smart phone is perfectly round and polished.The smoothness of Palm has not been seen before in any smart phone.

The front part of Palm Pre is a work of embossed in a glass black shiny finish.But the problem arises when shiny finish.But the problem arises with shiny surface because it becomes greasy with finger prints but palm provides micro fibre pouch to prevent from this problem.

The Palm Pre has a optional touch stone charging kit which comes with a nice touch black cover.The display does not feel that it is separate section of Phone.Earpiece is located at the north,centre button and micopening is at bottom.Thumb push up is at bottom of the screen area.

Theme of polished stone furnished the back of pre and logo is situated at the centre of pre.Camera lens is situated at the top right corner,and flash is situated at the other corner.Volume locker is at top left side and micro USB is at right.

The Palm Pre has dimensions of 59.57*100.53mm.Its weight is about 135g.

THE BOX

The Pre comes with a small box that has been shrunk with a more environmentally friendly motif.But the new packing of Pre is about half of Palm’s previous design.

PALM PRE HARDWARE:

The Pre is composed of the cutting edge TI OMAP 3430 chip set,and CPU is nicely integrated.The processor speed is about 600 MHZ

A digital dual band (850/1900MHZ) CDMA 2000 radio with EVDO Rev is used by phone.

DISPLAY:

The display of palm pre is awesome.The LCD is a HVGA 320*480 that supports upto 24 bit colours.

The palm uses touch screen technology.The display’s touch sensitive area extends just below the screen to the centre button,speaking of finger operations.Another short cut wave also involves.

KEYBOARD:

The pre’s main second claim is its slide out hardware keyboard.In addition to the keyboard,the device has a single button in the centre of the Gesture area,a volume rocker switch on the side,and a ringer switch on the top.

WIRELESS DATA:

The pre is capable of speeds in the range of 600 kbps to Mbps.The EVDO is much faster than any palm device.

STORAGE:

The pre has a 8.0 GB.The pre does’t have a flash memory card.The new version has 16 GB of internal flash storage.

USB drive mode works like a mass storage USB memory stick when internet is accessing.when these modes are in use,the pre cannot receive calls or messages.

CAMERA:

The pre has a 3 MP camera with a small LED flash lamp.Camera gives decent pictures either outdoor and indoor.It has a very a fast shutter speed, which gives quick multiple photos.

BATTERY LIFE:

The pre can be charged in two ways.

1)Either by using Micro USB cable

2)By using a accessory for wireless charging.

The palm pre has a user replaceable 1150 m Ah lithium battery.This is exact same battery used in palm centro and Treo 800 w models.

AUDIO:

The pre has very awesome audio system.phone call quality is very good,speaker phone was very loud.The pre also supports Blue tooth V2.1+EDR and associated A2DP stero profile for use with other blue tooth devices .

SOFTWARE:

The first palm device that was used by pre is web OS.This is the Linux based plat form that replaced palm OS.

WEB BROWSER:

The most impressive aspect of the pre is web browser.The pre browser is very fast.it feels faster than all mobiles.Most pages load up in a zoom view and then appear on the monitor.Double tap to automatically zoom at the particular area.

MESSAGING:

The experience of pre in messages is good.The notification is alert when messages arrive.

PHOTOS:

The photo viewer of pre is gently not so good. it needs some basic improvement.Each photo should be displayed at about 4-8 seconds.As a result,program also stutters when scrolling through a set of picture.

CONCLUSION:

However pre received positive response and winning CNET’S best in smart phone.The pre also noted some quality issues i-e slide is sensitive that makes the phone loose.However palm aimed to address this issue in their next pre.
